Does Oppo have a group for Project Cars on PC?
I just bought the game a couple days ago and definitely am enjoying it! The online seems to be a lot better than Fourza with qualifying and people who actually care about racing and not just playing bumper cars. Also I’m downloading BF4 too.
Have a 240SX S13 with a Rocket Bunny kit for your time.

iRacing trumps pCars if you’re looking for serious racing.

I’ve got it on oc, but my video card is not up to snuff.

There is a steam group for oppo, not sure that there is a specific racing league though.

I’m on there, but I have yet to try an online race.

I’ve heard that that’s the general consensus but I’m not sure on how to get iRacing. Is it just a subscription based payment system? How does the selection of cars and tracks compare to pCars?

If I could I would buy it, but then I’d have to buy a controller or a wheel. :(

I just connected an Xbox controller. Pretty cheap way to get started; I think the wireless adapter cost me $14 from Amazon and I already had a controller laying around. I’d get a wheel and pedals but can’t see spending $350+ when I still have to complete my real project car.

It’s just subscription and is a bit expensive up front if you really get into it since you have to pay for most of the tracks and cars separately, but you can ease into it a bit. You do get a bunch of tracks and a few cars for the rookie series, but not alot. You can buy all of the cars if you want, but you can’t compete in the series past your class, which is determined entirely by your safety score. If you’re a rookie who keeps crashing into things or losing control, you’ll stay a rookie forever. They don’t have a ton of cars, but that’s fine. You tend to find one you like and kind of stick with that one since the cars are so different. For example, I am class A with a very high safety rating which allows me to compete in everything, but almost all of my driving and all of my races for the last two or three years have been in the Class C Lotus 79. I just love the car, and being a slightly less populated series, I know who I’m racing against, so the racing’s really tight while staying respectful. It’s hard to go from one car to the next and just be fast without practice (just like in real life). Their track selection is fantastic. Not the biggest list in the world, but well selected. It’s definitely worth it to sign up for a few months, try the rookie series out, and if you don’t like it, it was only a few bucks. If you like it and start to advance, just focus on one series at a time. There’s no need to buy every car if you get to the Star Mazda or something, love it, and decide to just stick with that series.

I grabbed a used G27 for 160 CAD last weekend, and sold my G25 for 120. You can get a setup for less than three full-priced games.

Thanks for the detailed response!
That sounds like a solid system they have in place. I may have to try it out in a little bit. I just downloaded Skyrim, BF4 and still have pCars so I have a lot to keep me busy for awhile (I tend to stick to just a couple games).
The only thing I don’t like a pCars (and I don’t think iRacing has it) is the lack of customizing and upgrading cars like in Forza. I know it’d add yet another variable to classifying the cars for races but a tuner class would work well for it.

No, iRacing does not have car mods. Just setup. I’m glad that it’s that way, though. In order to beat someone, you have to be driving better than them. The car won’t do it for you.

True, it does make the racing a lot closer but sometimes I just wanna twin turbo a GT3 class car and lap Spa for a few minutes!

You can always take something stupid fast like a formula one car out to see if you can keep up with it. It’s way harder than arcade video games. Even if you were able to mod cars like that in it, it wouldn’t be like getting into a faster version of the same car. Well, it would, but not like it is in an arcade game like Forza or GT. Traction control and ABS won’t save you in iRacing. iRacing is all about the multiplayer racing. The graphics are outdated, it isn’t feature rich, there’s no career mode, but the physics and driving dynamics are spot on and thanks to the classing and safety requirements, if you want to race against other people, it’s serious racing. It’s also more rewarding when you nail it since it requires so much more work to get there. There will always be someone faster unless you’re like one of those crazy Finnish aliens that get on and just wipe the floor. Seriously, even in iRacing the Finns are the best.
